Eastern Southland Gallery Special Exhibitions:

The Gallery offers a vibrant and varied programme of temporary exhibitions featuring national and international artists and touring presentations.  Please contact the Gallery for further information or if you are interested in visiting any of these exhibitions.

 


 

Permanent Collection:

Art Explorers: Years 1 - 4. An ideal introduction to the Eastern Southland Gallery. Students navigate their way through the gallery, guided by the stars, answering questions challenging them to look deeper at artworks. (30 - 50 minutes)

Become Art Experts: Years 1 – 8. Using our permanent collection and special exhibitions students are given a number of specialised questions to further develop their skills in understanding art. (Year 1-2, 45 – 60 minutes. Year 3 – 8, 60 – 75 minutes)

Colours and Counting: Years 1 – 3. By using our permanent collection students will develop their numeracy skills, and recognise shapes and colours. (30 - 45 minutes)

Hotere: Year 4 – 8. Get up close and personal with New Zealand’s largest collection from one of our preeminent contemporary artists. (60 – 75 minutes)

John Money Collection: Learn more about the eclectic collection of John Money and the various artists. (60 – 75 minutes)

Masks: Interact closely with our West African carving and sculpture collection. Then, have a go at creating masks when you return to school. (Suggested mask activities are provided). (90 minutes)
